Affiliate disclosure
Where the money comes from, which links earn it, and what is true about this site right now.
The short version
NovoltGear is reader-supported. Some outbound links on this site may earn the site a commission if you follow one and buy something. That commission costs you nothing — the price is the same as if you had gone to the retailer directly.
Every outbound product link is labelled, either inline or by the disclosure line that appears beneath the product. The label is generated from the site's own data at build time, so it cannot disagree with what the link actually does.
The current position, as of 2026-10-04. NovoltGear has submitted an application to the Amazon Associates programme, and that application is not yet approved. No affiliate tracking parameter is attached to any outbound link on this site, which means the site currently earns nothing from them. The links point to the manufacturer's own pages so you can check the specification yourself.
Which links are affiliate links
An outbound link on this site is one of two things, and the difference is visible:
| Link type | URL | Markup | Does the site earn? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Affiliate link | Carries a tracking parameter identifying this site | rel="sponsored" plus a visible inline disclosure | Yes, if you buy |
| Manufacturer link | Points at the brand's own site, no tracking parameter | rel="nofollow", disclosure states no commission is earned | No |
Right now, every product link on NovoltGear is a manufacturer link. The disclosure sentence under each one says so explicitly rather than staying silent, because silence is how readers end up assuming a commercial relationship that does not exist.
How the labelling is enforced
The labelling is not a matter of editorial discipline — it is structural. Product records live in
a single data file at the root of the site, and each record carries an isAffiliate
flag. Two derived values read from it:
-
The
relattribute on the link. When the flag is false, the link isnofollowonly.sponsoredis added only when the flag is true. - The disclosure sentence rendered beneath the product. It switches between "this is an affiliate link" and "no tracking parameter is attached, so we earn nothing from it today".
No article author writes either of those by hand. This means the site cannot accidentally describe itself as monetised when it is not, or vice versa — the two states are the same flag.
What a commission does not buy
- Placement. There is no mechanism by which a brand can pay to appear on this site, in an article, in a list, or in a sidebar.
- A better verdict. Commission rates vary between products. If they influenced verdicts, the honest thing would be for the site to disclose both rate and ranking — which is precisely why the editorial rule instead is that every pick must state who should buy something else.
- A rating. This site publishes no star ratings and no numeric scores. A score implies a documented methodology, and inventing one to make a recommendation look measured would be a bigger deception than the commission itself.
- Suppression of a negative. Where a product has a real limitation, the limitation is stated in the same section as the recommendation. A negative that only appears when there is no commission at stake is not a policy, it is a mood.
Advertising and tracking
NovoltGear does not run third-party advertising. There are no display ad networks, no sponsored placements, no affiliate-fed ad units and no behavioural tracking scripts on this site. The site is served as static files and makes no third-party requests when you load a page.
This is relevant here for one reason: advertising networks are the other way a site like this could monetise, and declining them is part of why the affiliate relationship has to be stated clearly. There is no second revenue stream disguising the first. See the cookie notice and the privacy policy for the detail.
If you would rather not use affiliate links
That is entirely reasonable, and the site is built so it costs you nothing to avoid them. Every product we recommend can be found by searching the manufacturer or a retailer of your choice for the model name. We do not hide model numbers behind links, and we do not use redirect domains, so you can always see where a link is going before you click it.
